While most of us know Ray from her talk show, cooking show(s), cookbooks, and so on, there’s plenty we mere foodies aren’t privy to. New York born and bred, the now 49-year old Rachael Ray is an icon everyone recognizes. Parents James and Elsa used their roots of French, Welsh, Scottish, and Italian to manage restaurants – something that clearly stuck with Ray. Both experiences, being raised in New York and growing up with a diverse heritage influenced Ray’s career path. In more ways than she could have possibly imagined.

Ray has openly revealed that she holds no formal qualifications when it comes to cooking or baking. All of what she knows derives from personal experience and learning all on her own. There are times when her inexperience comes back to haunt her, especially when it comes two simple aspects in the kitchen: coffee and toast.
