You’ve probably seen countless YouTube videos and Pinterest tips but here is the only list you’ll ever need. These makeup hacks actually work, just read on and you’ll see.
Stamp Your Lashes To Make Them Look Fuller
If you’re looking for a quick way to add depth to your eyes without using eyeliner, the answer for you is mascara stamping. Just by gently pressing your mascara against the underside of your lashes gives them a fuller, darker look. It almost looks just like eyeliner, but far more natural.
Just make sure you start with curling lashes, apply the mascara as normal, and then press the mascara brush against your lash roots. You’ll get the appearance of more density and volume without looking its been overdone.
Dark Lips Make You Look Older
As you age, it’s only common that you’ll lose definition in your lips, therefore in order to appear more youthful, you’ should wear a lipstick that adds fullness. However, common to popular belief, a dark color only makes your lips appear smaller, less plump, and less highlighted. Instead, you need to select something in a mauve or pink tone.
Additionally, adding a layer of gloss is super helpful. Most women feel as if they are too old to wear lip gloss, but adding a shiny finish actually adds a youthful plumpness to your overall look.
Concealer Lip Contour
Drop the obvious liner or dark lipstick to make your lips stand out and instead use concealer or highlighter to make them pop subtly. Yes, it does work. Just use the photo below as reference.
Simply apply a light-colored cream highlighter or concealer around your lips, and blend out with your finger. Make sure that you leave a sharp line around your lips to make them stand out properly.
Baby Oil Makeup Remover
It’s the end of the night and you’re struggling to remove your eye makeup with wipes – sound familiar? Well you probably already have the solution in your bathroom already and you didn’t know it. Dab some baby oil to a cotton pad, and then use it to gently remove your eyeliner and mascara.
It’s super cheap, readily available, and as it’s made for babies, it won’t irritate your eyes. Pretty sure you couldn’t ask for more than that. Okay, maybe you can but you get the point.
Bobby Pin Eyelash Glue
If you’re one of those people who puts too much eyelash glue on your false lashes, then here’s a tip that you desperately need, use a bobby pin to apply it! You’ll have tons more control, and it’ll be much easier to get the perfect amount on the lashes.
When avoiding applying too much lash glue, just squeeze some of the glue onto the back of your hand or on a table. Then use the bobby pin to evenly spread along the base of the strip.
Card Winged Liner
Where was this tip when I needed it years ago?! Well there’s no time like the present. To get the perfectly straight line, hold up a card or put some tape next to your eye at the angle of the wing. Proceed to gently mark out where you want the wing with a pencil, and then go over it with gel or liquid liner.
If you don’t have a card handy, use any other small object with a straight edge, credit cards even. Most of the products you need, you already have in your house. No need to buy expensive makeup tools when you have a cheap, or free, option at home.
DIY Lip Gloss
So maybe you have a broken eyeshadow color that you don’t want to get rid of? That’s okay, just turn it into a lip gloss by mixing it with petroleum jelly. Make sure that the eyeshadow is in powder form.
You can also go wild and combine more than one color to create a totally unique, custom look that nobody else will have. And as far as DIY projects go, this one sounds really fun and easy.
Fix Broken Eye Shadow
Want to save your favorite eye shadow? Then just add a few drops of rubbing alcohol into any broken makeup product and it will help set back together. Press it back together with a spoon or any other utensil with a flat surface. Just make sure it’s dry before use.
Some people have also said vodka works quite well, but sticking to rubbing alcohol is more than enough. Be sure to wait around a day so that the powder will completely dry up.
Calling all Kim Kardashians, just kidding, calling all woman who are struggling to find the perfect contour color, you need to try buying a stick foundation or concealer in a color that’s a tad shade darker than your natural skin tone.
Foundations are rather easy to blend out and are formulated to look natural on your skin, so that why you won’t suffer from the orange cast that sometimes happens when you use bronzer to contour. There are plenty of cheap foundation sticks available at the drugstore.
Hairspray Brow Gel
Don’t you hate it when you’ve got a couple flyaway brows? We have all been there and for those of you saying you haven’t, stop lying. Seriously. Just apply some hairspray to a spooly or an old toothbrush, run it through your brows to set them in place.
Doing all of the above means one super crucial things: they will actually hold their shape all night long, and you don’t need to spend money on some crazy expensive brow gel.
Hashtag Smokey Eye
If you’re looking for a quick and easy smoky eye (yes, they do exist!) then you need to use a dark brown, deep purple, gray, or black eyeshadow pencil to draw a hashtag (or pound) shape on the outer corner of your lids. Then you need to blend out with your fingers, and finish off with liner and mascara.
This trick spreads the eyeshadow perfectly, so you get that perfectly messy, undone eye look. And when it comes to mastering the smokey eye look, this tip is key.
Larger Cupid’s Bow
Who doesn’t want bigger, fuller lips? Anyone? Yeah, didn’t think so. Well now you can fake it without breaking the bank and getting some insanely cosmetic surgery. Draw an ‘x’ shape on your upper lip under your cupid’s bow, then use that as a base to line your lips, slightly exaggerating your natural lip line.
Gents and ladies, this means that your mouth will look full without seeming so over-the-top. So no need for cosmetic surgery when all you need is a lip pencil.
If you want to take your matte lip color to the next level (which you probably do, come on, stop kidding yourself), add a shimmery or frosty powder to the center of your lips after application.
This will give your lips a subtle fullness and depth, but be sure that the powder you use complements your lipstick shade. Very important.
Mascara As Gel Liner
If you’re on the move or just ran out of liner (eek!), you can actually use your mascara in a pinch. Just stick your angled liner brush into your mascara, and apply it the way you usually would to your upper lashes. Seriously, not you or anyone else will be able to tell the difference.
Carry around an extra angled brush in your purse to get the perfect mascara eyeliner. Otherwise you can just carry liquid eyeliner for the quick touch-up you may need.
Red Lipstick As Blush
If you want to touch up your blush throughout the day abut you don’t happen have your compact handy, use your lipstick, girl. A pink or red lipstick in a satin formula actually blends out nicely and creates a natural flush. Boom, done.
The key to using lipstick as blush is the type of lipstick you use, according to Topshop beauty consultant Hannah Murray. Murray said, “Too glossy in finish and you’ll take on an odd gleam, but too matt and it could look chalky and dry.”
Saline Solution For Dry Mascara
I hate when my mascara runs try before it hits that three-month expiration date but guess what, there’s a way to fix that. Pour a few drops of saline solution into the tube and watch as it makes your mascara good as new.
Eye drops are also a great idea, instead of water. Just using water causes mascara to flake or smudge, and moreover it won’t even work it’s a waterproof mascara.
Shave Balm Primer
If you need a primer to help your makeup last all day then you’re in luck. Your local drugstore has a cheap and rather unexpected option available. You probably walk right past it, without even so much as a second glance. But that’s all about to change now.
The Nivea Men Sensitive Shave Balm contains glycerin, giving off perfect consistency for primer, and since it’s for sensitive skin, it won’t cause break outs. Match made in heaven.
Skin Colored Eyeliner
No more looking dead a** tired! All you need to do here is to apply a light or white eyeliner to your waterline and it’ll instantly brighten your eyes. This nifty trick really makes your eyes pop and creates the illusion that you’re more awake then you really are.
You can also use a skin colored eyeliner to cover any blemishes or acne breakouts. Or you can soften a mistake you make, use a flesh-toned liner to soften any harsh edges and also as a barrier to prevent your eye makeup from smudging.
Translucent Powder Lashes
If you want longer, fuller lashes, who are we kidding, everyone wants longer, fuller lashes! Don’t break the bank, you can get the same look by simply applying translucent powder to your lashes between the first and second coat of mascara.
Just make sure you start with clean, curled lashes. This is crazy cheap and so much easier. You’re welcome. Besides, you’ll quickly get the lashes you have always wanted. Hollywood style.
White Eyeshadow Base
I know, every time I apply I apply eyeshadow, it looks great then seconds later, it’s like you didn’t even do anything. How infuriating. Well, here’s the solution, use a white cream liner or shadow as a base instead of a flesh-colored one.
Apply the pencil all over the eye lid area, place your eyeshadow on top, and then blend out the edges with a brush or your finger. Simple? As the saying goes, “Easy as pie.”
Tone it Down
Cat eyes will always be sexy but it was this particular Korean makeup hack that has us swooning. While there are tons of methods running wild about the best way to apply the proper cat eye, we believe this is the winner.
Rather then flicking your eyeliner up at the end, drag it down instead. Toward your cheekbone for a rounder, wider-looking eye. The perfect cat eye? We’ll let you be the judge of that.
Sometimes the only makeup I throw in, is a nice shade of red lipstick but I’m just so tired of the lipstick smearing, smudging, or even fading throughout the day. There’s a solution for that! One that’s been under nose the whole time.
Set it with a translucent powder, but don’t put it directly on your lips. Instead, you need to blot it through a tissue in order to get the right amount of powder access to your lips. Boom.
If you’re used to filling your eyebrows with heavy pencil, powders and gels then we’ve got a super important tip for you. Use brow pomade instead. What is though? Brow pomade is a multitasking product that glides on skin and hair smoothly which creates clean, defined brows.
It takes just 10 seconds to apply and it shapes, fills and fluffs while maintaining a natural look. Just watch as it provides color, sculpture, and shading. Even if you have oily skin or live in humid climates, this is ideal for you.
Makeup Brush To The Rescue
There is nothing quite more infuriating than getting mascara smudges on your eyes just after you’ve finished putting it on! But don’t wipe it off with your finger or worse, take it all off and start over.
Here’s what you should do, prepare to have your mind blown. Instead just dip a small concealer brush into a soft miceller water to remove the smudge – that’s all it takes. No really, that’s it.
Very Lightly Wet Your Makeup Brushes
Now this is good one! Be sure to lightly wet your makeup brushes before you start to apply foundation. The reason is simply being, you’ll look more radiant, every girl’s dream.
“Washing your brushes can [seem like] a chore, so create an experience that’s enjoyable,” says the makeup artist Troy Surratt. Otherwise if your brush is brimming with silicones and oils, then instead use Dawn dish soap.
De-oiling Your Oily Face
While this is going to sound really weird, it will surely help smooth your face and make it look less oily! Which is key. We all know that oily skin is really challenging to manage. However this simple home remedy can help to reduce symptoms, like acne, without using prescription drugs or those expensive skin-care regiments.
You need to put anti-perspirant on your fingers and blot it gently into your skin; this helps to de-oil t-zones and underneath your eyes without the thickness of powder. (On a personal note, I could have used this tip years ago).
This is how you’re supposed to apply your liner, right in between your lashes. This makes it appear as though you’re barely wearing any makeup all while adding some color and definition to your eyes. Plus it makes the base of your lashes appear more full.
Tightlining creates a subtle doe-eyed effect, which can be perfect in certain situations. However we recommend you practice first a few times, so you don’t hurt or blind yourself. Practice makes perfect.
Reuse That Plastic Spoon
Using a plastic spoon when you apply mascara to your bottom lashes will help you not to get any of the mascara under your eyes. This will also help to make the lashes look more full and thick.
You can also use the plastic spoon when applying nail polish – hold the tip of the spoon underneath your nails while painting as to prevent the polish from getting onto your skin that is on the tip of your fingers.
Blush For Face Shape
Applying the right amount of blush takes practice but it all starts with knowing your face shape. By knowing your face shape, it will make the blush look more flawless and help to highlight the features of your face properly.
Here’s the key thing to remember, once you finally do know your perfect blush color and the technique combo, you will never ever go back to that typical old round pop of rouge again. That’s when you can start to fully feel like a grown up!
Hiding Dark Circles
Dark circles are the devil! While most of us do what the picture to the right shows, it’s not the proper way. You add concealer and still, you look like a raccoon. However, fret not, there is a solution. An easy solution.
What you need to do is illustrated in the picture to the left. Create almost a triangle shape, that is the key. We did tell you it was really easy!
You really need to invest in a good nude pencil if you’re looking for the best way to make your eyes appear bigger. You shouldn’t line your eyes with a dark liner, like brown or black, instead you need to use the nude pencil.
Maybe you’re more familiar with using white eyeliner on your waterline so that you can make your eyes appear bigger, brighter, and more wide awake. However a nude pencil can, and will, give you that very same effect.
Reuse Mascara Wands
Instead of throwing away mascara wands when they’ve expired, reuse them! Be sure to wash them first. Use warm water and soap (bar soap, liquid soap, or hand sanitizer). Let them dry on a cloth.
Then you use them as an eyebrow brush, spray some hairspray and keep hairs from poking out on the top of your head, clean around your faucet, the list could go on!
Curling Lash Secret
So you want to get the most out of your curling lash? Get in line! Kidding, take a look at the diagram below and you’ll be amazed at the results you get. While the diagram is pretty self explanatory, we have written directions below.
Pinch at the very base of your and then lift up the curler in an inverted position. This will create double the curl and it will last much longer! All of this will take minutes, and that sounds like music to our ears.
Heat It Up
Another trick to getting the most out of your lash curler is to heat it up for about three to five seconds before you use it. Blow warm air onto the lash curler until it heats up. Wait until the air cools slightly (you can test the warmth on the back of your hand), and then simply curl your lashes as normal.
This little trick helps your lashes curl much more easily and always helps to hold the shape longer.
Secret Eye Lift
If you want to get that eye lift without having to consult a plastic surgeon then all you need is a pink matte pencil. We’ll try to hammer this point home as much as possible, but these tricks are super easy to follow along with.
Apply the pencil across the entire length of your brow bone, this will help to create the illusion that you have a higher arch. Then all you need to do is blend!
Test Foundation On Your Jawline, Not Your Face
Matching your foundation is a difficult enough task and most of us tend to use our cheeks as a base but only end up looking unnatural. Is there a way to avoid this bump in the road? Of course there is!
Therefore to avoid this problem, be sure to swipe three different shades of foundation just below your jawline and then blend it in. Whichever shade then disappears, well this is the shade you need to use.
Eyebrow Face Shape
Having just the right eyebrow shape frame your face is exhausting! Most of us may have plucked our poor eyebrows into non-existence or have just let them grow into caterpillars. Either way, it takes a lot out of a girl.
No matter which way you look at it, they’re a nightmare to maintain. The thing is, there is more than one style that suits a person’s face, it all has to do with the person’s shape. Just look at the diagram above.
Don’t Wear Any Eye Shadow At All
Here’s the thing, stay away from eye shadow, completely! You should especially avoid using contour eye shadow in the crease of your eyes because it gives the appearance of deepening the crease – the opposite of what you want.
If you really can’t give up your eye shadow then try to use organic, natural or herbal products. However make sure without a shadow of a doubt that they really are organic.
Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize
There really is nothing out there that plumps up the skin better than that of hydration. Plus, it does help everything else glide on much better: concealer, foundation, sunscreen, blush, and so on. You can also rely on hyaluronic acid, which helps with aging skin like you’ve never seen.
Moisturizing will help to reduce the chance of skin problems, can reduce blemishes from appearing, keeps your skin looking young, fights wrinkles, and it’s the best way to finish off that shower. Find the moisturizer that works best for your skin.
Get More Out Of Liquid Makeup
Now here’s a tip! Don’t throw away any makeup in tubes just because they appear empty. The very last bit of makeup might be the hardest to reach, but it can honestly give you a extra days’ wear. And that can make all the difference.
If your makeup is in a plastic tube that no longer squeezes out product, simply cut off the perforated edge. Then use a makeup brush to get the remaining product from the tube, and then just cover the open edge with some cling wrap. What a money saver!
Create Natural Contouring
No doubt that it’s a bit difficult to figure out where to add blush or bronzer for contouring. Here’s a quick tip to make your life much easier! We all know that contouring, properly, can take ages but there is a time saving tip.
Just use an eyeliner pencil or even a makeup brush handle. Be sure to place the straight edge directly below your cheekbone so that you can get the right angle.
No More Lipstick On Your Teeth
Now here’s a tip I wish I would have known about earlier! Granted the photo below might just sum up everything we want to say, but in any case, it’s best we spell it out.
After you apply some lipstick, put your finger in your mouth then close your lips around your finger, and pull your finger out. Any excess lipstick will get on your finger, instead of on your teeth. Genius.
Use a retinol cream
Using a retinol cream really makes your skin glow more. Products like RoC Deep Wrinkle Daily Moisturizer SPF30 are a serious lifesaver. It’s the retinol that gets rid of those deep wrinkles and keeps skin smooth.
“If you want to do it on your own, buy something over the counter, use it very sparingly, and begin by using it only two to three times a week,” says New York M.D. Francesca Fusco, a medical and cosmetic dermatologist.
Check Your Makeup Under Different Light
I know – this tip is one that pretty much everyone knows right? Weeellll, not really. Have you ever wondered why your makeup looks different when you leave your house and jump into your car? I’m sure you’ve thought about it at some point.
Well that’s probably because you may not have the best light when you’re applying makeup. That’s why you should check your makeup as soon as you get into the car. Simple enough.
Apply Foundation At The Center Of Your Face
When you start to apply foundation, be sure to start at the center of your face then blend out. This will allow for the foundation to fade out around the edges which only leaves you with a more natural look.
Using this method will leave you with the most natural finish and moreover, it’ll help to prevent mask-like edges of foundation to are visible around your face. Win-win.
Turn A Pencil Eyeliner Into A Gel Formula
Sometimes applying pencil eyeliner can be quite difficult, as the line it creates tends to be very thin. However, applying liquid eyeliner can be even harder. So, we’ve got a trick that’s the perfect happy medium and all you need is a lighter and eyeliner.
1) hold your eyeliner (any color works) under the flame (1 second), remove it from the flame and let it cool for 15 seconds, and vuela! You know how have a new liquid eyeliner – glide on your eyelids and enjoy!
How Not To Hold Your Makeup Brushes
This might not be a tip you think you need. I mean, who cares about how you hold a makeup brush, right? It doesn’t any difference to the overall product. Well, unfortunately that’s where you would be wrong. Let us explain.
Make sure to hold the very end of your makeup brush when applying foundation. While this may feel awkward or too loose of a grip, the soft touch it provides will result in a more natural/flawless finish.
Clean Your Makeup Brushes
Creamy foundation, black eyeliner, dark bronzer, rosy-red blush, these products (and many others) leave build up in your brushes. And the last thing you want is to apply bronzer, and notice tints of black all over your face.
To avoid this, use brush cleansers, soaps, and/or shampoo: simply pour one of the solution into a cup, swirl the brush to loosen the old makeup, rinse, swirl again, rinse, and swirl one last time. Sounds simple enough.
Use The Right Lip Liner Color
Using lip liner is an underrated, yet essential makeup necessity. But how do you know which one to use? Well; the pencil color and lipstick should be the same color – before applying your lipstick, create sharp lines or fill entire lip with pencil. Secondly, a pencil that matches your natural color – simply line the outside of your lips to create that plump/full look.
And finally, use a pencil that’s slightly darker than your nude lipstick – before applying lipstick make sure to line your lips with this pencil which’ll create a stronger definition.
Make Your Eyes Look Bigger
These tricks are (truly) eye-opening! Pick your eye shadow color of choice and apply as follows: light-colored eye shadow right under your eyebrow – inner corners and over the lid. Two, medium shade right above the crease, below your lower lash line. (Three and four are below.)
Three, light beige eyeliner pencil to the waterline of your lower lid. And lastly, darker shade just in the creases of your eyelid – a deeper and larger-eyed look.
Enjoy A Full Face Of Makeup All Day Long
We’ve all suffered the, “OMG! This is what I look like?” reaction at the end of the day. This startling reaction usually occurs when we look in the mirror and notice that majority of our morning makeup is simply gone.
So, to ensure that this reaction isn’t repeated, we suggest trying this: once you’ve (finally) finished putting on your makeup, apply a setting spray to your entire face. And while your face is still damp, use a light powder, creating a more even, natural, and flawless overall look.
The ‘Au Naturel’ Look
As much as we think that makeup is a necessity in our everyday lives, in reality, there’s nothing more beautiful or pure than the ‘au naturel’ look — #Iactuallydidwakeuplikethis.
We know it sounds contradicting, but think back to when the last time was that you didn’t wear makeup. Really think. If you can’t figure it out within seconds, or a minute, then there is a problem. Be comfortable not wearing any makeup and see what positive changes that has in your life.
