When you think about how many people pass through an airport on a regular basis, weird things are bound to happen. Some things, however, are past the weird point and are completely unbelievable. So, we’ve decided to round up some interesting occurrences that have happened at airports around the world for your amusement.
Santa, Were You Naughty Or Nice?
See? Even Santa needs to go through security, just like the rest of us. Let’s just hope he hasn’t been naughty this year.
Oh, you know, it’s completely normal to book seats for your 80 falcons on a flight… Right? Well, it is normal for this Saudi prince. He even went as far as getting all of the birds passports that are valid for 3 years.
How Does She Look Good at the Airport?
It seems to be that celebrities somehow manage to look amazing wherever they go – even the airport. Traveling is exhausting so looking good while flying is a difficult task only celebs seem to be able to do.
Embarrassing Mom 101
A great way to prank your mom when she’s coming home from a trip is just like you see in this photo. It’s simple and oh so effective.
A Complicated Nap
Finding a comfy spot to nap at an airport can be difficult. This woman clearly meant business. How she even got in there, we have no idea, but kudos to her.
Traveling with children is always a difficult ordeal, but in this case, it seems to be that the suitcase is acting like a pretty effective stroller. Maybe this is just a hack to save space when traveling?
Traveling With Kids 2.0
This dad has obviously figured out how it’s best to travel with kids happily. Instead of a loud tantrum thrown by the little girl, she gets to ride on Dad’s suitcase and live her best life.
Plane Gone Wrong
While it’s pretty obvious this plane accident was just that – an accident, it still is pretty scary to think about. Next time your flight gets delayed due to bad weather, maybe don’t complain about it too much?
Celebrities, they’re just like us, right? Well, not really, but they do need to go through airport security as we do. So there’s that at least.
An Emotional Support Peacock
As it’s illegal for specific institutions to not allow people’s service animals in, some people tend to take advantage of this fact. However, this did not work out so well for this woman and her pet peacock. This woman tried to bring her emotional support peacock onto a United Airlines flight out of Newark Airport but was denied for obvious reasons. Officially, a spokesperson for the airline said the reason was that the peacock didn’t meet guidelines for animals who can travel safely on planes.
Transporting 18 Severed Heads
In 2013, 18 severed heads were found in a shipment at Chicago airport that was arriving from Italy. Straight out of a horror movie, right? Well, turns out they were headed to a research facility and their paperwork was misplaced. Eventually, they were released as planned after they were confirmed as legit by the police.
Tiger Cub Found In A Suitcase
Back in 2010, a woman decided to bring a drugged tiger cub in her suitcase from Thailand to Iran. Fortunately, the tiger turned out fine and the woman faced serious criminal charges and fines. What she did was not okay.
A Viral Video Celine Dion Loved
What are you going to do at the airport when you’re stuck there for hours due to a delayed or canceled flight? That’s right, make a music video for a song you love. Richard Dunn did just that. He made a music video for Celine Dione’s “All By Myself” during an overnight layover in Las Vegas. The video ended up going viral and catching the attention of Celine Dione herself. She loved the video so much she offered Richard tickets to one of her upcoming shows.
The Naked Airport Woman
Next on weird things that happened at the airport, a woman walked around the Atlanta airport in the nude. She walked in, bought a ticket using cash, then took off all her clothes and walked around the terminal behaving oddly and causing a ruckus. She apparently screamed obscenities and just made everyone nearby very uncomfortable. We don’t know if she actually intended to board the flight she booked, but she was arrested and taken to a hospital so she never did.
A Bomb Threat
Let’s begin by saying this is not the best thing to do at an airport, to say the least. In 2014, NFL player Aldon Smith made a bomb threat while in LAX. Turns out he and the other players joked that he was carrying a bomb with him as they were going through security. This, of course, led to Smith being arrested. Smith didn’t face other consequences after this story ended, so let’s hope he learned something from the experience.
Bodily Fluid In The Soap Dispensers
You might want to consider bringing your own travel soap next time you go somewhere after reading this one… An ‘unusual substance’ was found in the fluid soap dispensers at Detroit’s airport. Turns out it was a man’s bodily fluids. Being as the soap dispensers are difficult to fill, the airport assumed an employee had to have done it. “The way the soap dispensers are under the sink, a passenger wouldn’t know how to get up under, and untwist them,” an airport custodian said. “It really is disgusting. A lot of crazy things happen at the airport.”
A Cheetah In An Airport
Yes, we know how crazy it sounds, but bear with us. Two cheetahs were being transported to the Memphis Zoo. One of them somehow got loose in the cargo hold during a stop in Atlanta. Local Zoo Atlanta employees helped trap it, with a veterinarian shooting it with a tranquilizer. Thankfully, no people or cheetahs were harmed whatsoever and the rest of their trip was fine.
Push The Plane
Imagine this: your plane gets stuck in the ice on the runway. You have no idea when it will actually leave. So what do you and the other passengers do? Push the plane, of course. In 2014 this actually happened in Siberia to avoid a delayed flight. What’s amazing is that the plan worked.
All Flights Were Cancelled In Atlanta
Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport lost all its power one day in 2017, resulting in hundreds of flights being canceled that day. Can you imagine how frustrating that would be? Turns out the power-out was most likely caused by a fire, and it took hours till the power came back on. So it means there were thousands of people just sitting at the airport with nowhere to go while the power was out.
Porn Playing At The Airport
The TVs at the airport tend to play neutral things such as sports and news. Well, at one point the airport in New Dehli accidentally played porn on not one, but two different TVs in waiting areas. Passengers were the ones to report it which resulted in a police investigation. One police officer assumed it was an employee’s mistake. “It’s possible that they were not aware of the fact that the same connection was being used for the two television sets in the visitors’ lounge,” the officer said.
Time For A New Marketing Team
We know their intentions were in the right place, but we just can’t ignore this mistake. Who doesn’t want to board a plane flying straight towards the ground? The weirdest part to us is that no one on the marketing team said anything while the banner was being approved…
Ignorance Is Bliss
If only they would look down and see… But alas, they did not, and as a result, we got this picture. As the saying goes, ignorance is bliss.
Very Important Task
As we can see from this image, the airport employee had a very important task to accomplish: play solitaire. We hope for their sake that they won the game at least.
The Drunk Man
Once upon a time, in 2012, a very drunk man arrived at Rome’s airport. After he brought on major chaos at the airport, he went and fell asleep in the baggage scanner and went through the X-ray machine. He was sounds asleep for about 15 minutes until the police discovered him. They took him to the hospital to make sure he wasn’t harmed by the radiation from the machine. The end.
Smuggling Gold Bars
A man arrived in an Air India flight to Panaji in 2014 from Mumbai. When trying to pass through security, the customs agents discovered something rather interesting. The man said he was there on business, and yet he couldn’t name any hotels he was there to work with. After a search, it turns out he was holding six gold bars in his rectum, each one weighing 100 grams. He was attempting to smuggle them into the country.
Cocaine In A Diaper
This is where things get even weirder. In 2013, two women were arrested at JFK Airport for smuggling drugs. How did they smuggle the drugs, you ask? They were stopped by drug-sniffing dogs, which is how they got an extra pat-down. During this, officers discovered both of the women were wearing diapers made of duct tape that were filled with cocaine. How creative.
Another creative idea that also failed, a passenger at Newark Airport tried to smuggle more than $52,000 worth of cocaine in 2012 from Guatemala. He baked the cocaine into cookies that he brought along to get them past customs. But alas, the cookies were tested, and he was arrested and tried for drug possesion. Stay in school, kids.
Too Many Clothes?
People who are traveling are really coming up with creative ideas. This man was traveling from Iceland and was arrested for wearing too many clothes. Why would he be arrested for this? Well, turns out he was wearing about eight layers of clothing so he wouldn’t need to pay more for excess baggage. After he refused to take some of the clothing off, he was arrested. In theory, this could have been a good idea… In reality, not so much.
Weekend At Bernie’s
In 2012, a woman named Gitta Jarant attempted to smuggle the body of her dead husband, Kurt through the airport and onto a flight with her daughter helping out. They were found out at John Lennon Airport when they attempted to disguise the body by putting it in a wheelchair with sunglasses on, Weekend At Bernie’s style. They claimed he was just asleep. Both women ended up being arrested at the airport. Turns out, Kurt was dead for at least 12 hours at that point. How creepy?
