Lexi Reed was just 25 years old, weighing an unbelievable 485 pounds. Her husband, Danny, weighed 280 pounds, and their weight gain seemed to have come close to a halt. So many daily activities, such as riding a bicycle or even just going for a walk, have become difficult tasks. The couple decided after their first wedding anniversary in 2016 that it was time for a change in life.

She remembered Lexi ‘s cardiovascular classes, “I tried to do high-intensity cardio, but I couldn’t.” Though she was fully motivated to lose weight and fit, she realized that it would be time consuming. She convinced herself that she would not give up no matter what, although it meant that she had to pause for 30 minutes.

With her continued dedication to her purpose, Lexi began to realize that all her hard work had begun to pay off. As she went, she managed to lose approximately 20 pounds every month. But at a certain point her weight loss began to plateau, and she had to fire it up. “My weight loss has slowed down and I’ve taken up my training and adjusted my calories to keep losing.”

We have begun to change the food that we eat … For every single meal, we stopped eating out and we made healthy versions of the food we craved. Even when there was a desire for fast food, Danny and Lexi did not eat. “Lexi recalled,” I didn’t eat out at all for the first month, I made it all, and I don’t even like cooking, so I’ve been learning constantly. I cooked foods that I liked and took foods I liked before and made healthy versions of those meals. I didn’t feel deprived and was still able to eat the food that I wanted.

Being overweight really has affected each and every day activity. Lexi used it as a springboard to get her healthy. “I wanted to be able to go hiking and go with my husband, to cycle and roller coasters. I just wanted to do everything you want to do that you can’t do when you are too heavy to weigh.

At the beginning of the battle to lose weight, the results couldn’t be seen and nobody was inspired. “Obviously, you haven’t gained all this weight overnight, you won’t see results immediately and in one day you won’t lose all of your weight,” she said.

It took three weeks to see even a tiny piece of change. But she realized it was at that point, when she saw progress, that something could be achieved. “It took three weeks before I saw the results. I became addicted once I started doing it.

The two were becoming more and more distant from each other even before their lifestyle has changed. Although they sat together, ate take-outs, and watched TV, they didn’t engage with someone else. Lexi best explained, “We’d have so many nights to eat and watch and not to talk to Netflix.”

It takes an enormous choice to do what they have done, but you can do anything when you feel that your life is on the line. Lexi said, “I decided that enough was sufficient. I’ve been prepared to change my life. Every day I decided I would work hard for it. She continued, “I didn’t know nutrition, cooking, I didn’t have surgery, I didn’t take any pills. I was only your average fed-up girl, who wanted to change.

Being so massively obese can actually cause death of a person. So when the couple decided they were healthy, they actually saved their own lives. “There are no words to explain your life-saving feeling,” said Lexi. “I’m not a prisoner anymore in my own body and instead of just living in my own life I am finally still alive. She just learned how to dirt bike, and was excited about it. “I’ve never thought in a million years my weight loss journey will take me here or I will ever do something [Danny] really likes.”

According to Lexi, a good substitute for a meal is a protein shake. She swears and makes sure she is drinking at least one day. It should not be served as a meal; it could be a “mini-meal.”
