Love stories in high school are common knowledge now but have you read of romances in pre-school? When they began at barely three years of age, Matt Grodsky and Laura Sheel developed a special connection throughout their preschool days and became inseparable. He had even expressed to their entire class his affection for her. Unfortunately, as they got older, they studied in different universities, and the gap separating them began to grow, cutting their sense of connection to an end over time. Well before fate got them back together…
Matt and Laure met in pre-school
The story started in Phoenix, Arizona, and dates back 25 years. These two quickly became best friends at their kindergarten, and they were just three years old. Matt had understood after knowing Laura in the play area that he wanted to be mates with her and began going everywhere she went, which led her to start liking him quickly and resulted in them becoming attached to the hip. Their parents didn’t think their relationship was unusual, but they were charming – after all, they were just kids.
Laura Thought He Was a Dork
Matt would accompany Laura on the playground the whole day because he knew she wanted to be a buddy of hers. Since he followed her around, Laura thought Matt was a total dork, but then she saw how funny and loving Matt really was, and so they soon became best friends. And then the two best friends needed more time to play and even more time outside of preschool.
The Inseparable Pair
For these two, Matt and Laura needed to spend more time together. Only hanging out at preschool wasn’t cutting it. By then, their parents became friends, so they even began to play dates on weekends. Every weekend was fun, significantly when their family brought them to the cinema when if they watched a scary one, Matt would hold Laura’s hand. Even though Matt was just four years old at the time, he certainly wanted to tell the world how Laura made him feel.
Matt Wants to Impress
Oh, just consider the fun things that we did to impress each other as children. Those were the golden times when we would boast about the Pokemon collection or attempt to swing incredibly high on the swings. He was eager to make an impact at all times because Matt loves his best friend. His most common way of doing this was to recite the lines from the Disney movies he most liked, such as The Lion King, by heart.
Laura Was Matt’s Inspiration
She impressed him without breaking a sweat while Matt tried his best to leave an impression on Laura. She was the one who taught many things to Matt, such as using the swings and drawing rolling hills. She had also shown him the right way to eat string cheese. When you are an adult, it may not seem like a lot, but having someone teach you these lessons as a child means that they will forever become part of your precious memories.
The Favorite Duo
Everybody could see that Matt and Laura were best friends when they were just four years old. Their bond was undoubtedly outstanding, and everybody believed they were two petite paramours, just ask Matt. Because, one day, he just stood in front of their class and announced that he would marry Laura one day, with the promise of “Just you wait!” As expected, their class laughed. If only they had known how accurate his forecast would be.
Best Mates In Preschool
Matt and Laura remained best friends throughout their preschool days, even though no one believed Matt was severe about his confession of love. Outside of pre-school hours, their playdates went on, and they never skipped each other’s birthday parties. Even though they were just four years old, their relationship was unique. However, for these friends, a significant change was coming. As preschool life was over, it was time to start kindergarten. Sadly, soon enough, they had to test their friendship.
Soon enough, the day eventually came. They were excited about the beginning of the next stage of their lives after completing preschool. The move to kindergartens is a significant change for any kid, but it was very gloomy for Matt and Laura. These pre-school friends had no idea whether they would be in the same class and soon became conscious that all of their endless playdates could be over.
They Got in Different Elementary Schools
What changed was that Matt and Laura weren’t in the same kindergarten class, and they didn’t even go to the same elementary school afterward. This was not a deliberate decision made by their family but instead imposed by the community where they resided. Their parents only told them that they would still be able to have plans for the weekend as they did not completely understand the idea of how linked these pair were to one another.
They Don’t Hang Out Anymore
Even though their parents had assured the two friends that their weekend playdates would still be together, it was hardly right. Time is waiting for nobody, and shortly enough, there was a continuous decrease in the time Matt and Laura would spend together. These pair attempted to play together on any circumstance they could find, despite the reality. Sadly, they just didn’t get to see each other as much after completing kindergarten and starting different grades. It was Christmas cards, ultimately, that became their only communication.
Over time, Matt and Laura hardly saw each other even though they used to play together every day and celebrated Christmas together. When their families got Christmas cards in the mail, the friends would only hear from each other. Even though they were missing each other, they were busy with things like school, homework, family, and new friends in everyday life.
Out of Sight Out of Mind
Out of sight, out of mind. And for Matt and Laura, it rang true. The two former best friends were no longer eagerly waiting for the new Christmas cards after years had passed. They lived their own separate lives. Once we have started to become grownups, discover new things, meet new friends, and gain brand new experiences, it’s insanely easy to overlook the past. It seems that, in their childhood days, Matt and Laura had had an incredible bond, but they had grown and left all that behind.
Shortly indeed, nearly ten years had passed, and Matt and Laura were preparing for their high school life to begin. Again it meant that they were students in two separate schools, and they barely knew each other at this point. Besides, from the moment they were best friends, a whole decade had gone. But then something remarkable happened. She saw a name pop up on her friend’s phone when Laura was beginning her freshman year.
None other than Matt Grodsky.
Reminiscing The Good Ol’ Days
Laura was taken by total surprise to see Matt’s name emerge before her, and she recalled all those sweet childhood memories all of a sudden. After questioning her friend how she knew Matt, it turned out that the two had met during their grade school days. The universe felt tremendously smaller all at once. Laura told her friend all about their childhood romance in preschool, but she agreed it was best not to linger on it. But a friend of hers had something else on her mind…
The Friend was a Matchmaker
Her friend had a wild idea as soon as Laura told her friend about Matt’s childhood affair. She was planning to get them set up. Laura felt skeptical after learning this proposal from her friend. Besides, she hardly saw Matt now, and for ages, they hadn’t spoken. Everything couldn’t be the same as it was.
Matt Got Laura’s Number
Laura was understandably nervous over being set up a date with Matt. She was not even sure at this point whether she should have a boyfriend. She said in her interview with People: “I was a high school freshman, so I was like, ‘I don’t think so! “‘ Amid the concerns of Laura, her friend had a feeling for the two friends. She shot ahead and gave the number of Matt Laura. There was a shocking reaction from Matt.
Matt Texted Laura
He sent her a message as soon as Matt had a hold of Laura’s contact, and they started talking within an instant and planned on a date. They decided to go to the cinema together after picking the date. It was as if no time had passed at all when they met together. In his interview, Matt told People that he thought it was love at first sight. Exactly like back in preschool, these two clicked right away.
Would They Click?
Even though they were buddies in preschool, there was no guarantee that they would click when they were in their teens. The moment they met again, though, it was like going back to the old days of preschool. These two became boyfriends and girlfriends after their first date was over without any complications and began formally dating. Even though they attended separate high schools, it was easy to stay in a serious relationship due to their driving licenses. But shifts were about to arise because college is coming up soon.
The Difficult Decision
During their senior year, the couple faced a tough decision that had to be taken and college coming up soon. They did not want to forget each other again because they had already separated before. And yet, in separate states, they attended various colleges and feared losing out on everyday experiences. As Laura told People: “We were pretty hesitant right after we graduated from high school.” We were like, “Are we staying together?”
Distance Made Their Relationship Stronger
Even if it was a great distance, Matt and Laura agreed to study in their respective colleges and try to make it work. Matt moved to Chicago to attend Columbia College, and Laura went to Northern Arizona University with 1600 miles of distance between them. Although when they were students, distance hindered their affections, everything was different this time. To make their relationship prosper, Matt and Laura were committed.
Ready To Tackle
Matt and Laura loved each other so much, despite the reality that they knew this distance would make it challenging, and so they were able to do whatever it took to make their partner happy. Decided to experience real college life, they also ensured that they maintained a healthy connection. Different time zones made this extremely tough for them. Networking sites and Facetime, however, have allowed them to see each other at all times. They were also visiting each other continually in their new homes.
6 Months Apart
And although social media and Facetime were there to enable both stays connected, there were big chunks of time when they did not get together. Once, the longest was almost half a year. They both became conscious of this one big thing when they went to college – they just wanted to be together. The distance, however, was beginning to become an impossible challenge for both and particularly for Matt. He saw that this move had to be made.
Senior year was coming again, but this time for college. It was something Matt decided to celebrate in a meaningful way to start their last year of school. Matt got the idea of a romantic date when they were both at home during the summertime. He chose to make Laura a surprise date because they were giving their all in school, which would help them unwind and be romantic. He had arranged a picnic at their old preschool for them. How cute, right? Matt also had something else planned, however.
Matt Had a Romantic Idea
While it was all the time in Matt’s plan to have a nice and romantic picnic at the sweet spot, there’s something else he wanted as well. Matt told the Huffington Post, “I persuaded Laura that we were going to a preschool picnic. We had just completed our junior college year, so I framed it as a nice relaxing date.” Even after all these years of being together, Laura could never guess what was happening.
Laura Was Incredibly Moved
Even though she assumed that the two of them were planning a picnic, she had no idea that it would be at the preschool where they had met nearly 20 years before. Matt was very passionate and wanted this way to surprise Laura. The preschool was for Matt, an ideal metaphor for honoring their love. He decided to bring Laura back to where it had all started because he loved their remarkable love story.
Matt was Fidgeting
Laura had already noticed on the way to their preschool that Matt seemed to be incredibly nervous. She thought it was because of their picnic spot’s surprise factor, as he was fumbling in his seat the whole time during their road trip. Laura was profoundly struck by the loving gesture after arriving at their preschool, however. She already felt immensely grateful that Matt was part of her life, and now her feelings were getting the best of her.
Already impressed by the picnic that Matt had organized for the two of them at their old preschool, Laura became even more overwhelmed when he knelt in front of her and asked for her hand in marriage. She felt shocked. I was like, ‘Oh my Gosh, is that going on? “I saw the ring, and it was like, ‘This is amazing. I’m so pleased with that I had no idea,’ she told People. She was clearly saying, yes. How did Matt manage to surprise her with that engagement?
Several Months of Preparation
He had sought the blessing of her father and even bought an excellent engagement ring several months before asking the big question. Also, Matt had his brother hiding on the pre-school floor so that he could record everything. The loveliest thing was that Matt had also used the old picnic package of his parents that his father had previously used when he suggested it to Matt’s mother. His parents loaded the basket ahead of time with cider and wedding magazines. For Laura, something even more incredible was waiting.
Going Back Where It All Started
Matt had chosen that he would not wait until completion while they were both still in college. Laura was the one as far as he was aware, and he was working to make it all official. This is why he was eager to stick to his promise of preschool. Matt said to the Huffington Post, “I proposed to her at the place it all began … our preschool classroom. When you like someone, you just kind of stand up and say it.”
Matt and Laura Is Married
On December 30, 2016, at the Arizona Historical Society, Matt and Laura got married. They chose Elton John’s “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” for their first dance honoring Matt’s many Disney lines’ recitals back when they were kids. Matt’s uncle was officiating their marriage, adding these great lines: “For most kids in preschool, it’s about finding your snacks and your sleeping mats, but for them, it was about finding their soulmates.” The love story of Matt and Laura was only at the beginning…
Their Love Was Celebrated
Their marriage was very obviously important, not just for Matt and Laura, but it was made even more special because they could share their story with loved ones. For them, it was the best gift.. Matt and Laura remember: “Our favorite part of the wedding was the dancing and having everyone we love there to celebrate with us. We tore it up on the dance floor, and it was great being surrounded by everyone who played a part in bringing us together.”
Matt and Laura decided to keep the celebrations going until they were formally married. They were on a plane as quickly as they had made their vows, leaving for their wedding night on the beautiful island of Maui. They had been there for almost two weeks, crossing up and down the island and looking at what it had to offer. They had, above all, finally enjoyed their time together. They could never have known what was going to happen.
The Way We Met
Matt and Laura hear their friends and family always telling them how unique their marriage was. Laura realized that their friendship was out of the conventional, and she decided to share the story now as an official Grodsky. Laura told the story of how they came across “The Way We Met” with a fun snapshot of them in pre-school with a more current image next to it. This Instagram account frequently posts cute stories of meetings with couples, and they realized they had to share Laura’s story.
Couple went viral
Matt and Laura spoke about their beautiful relationship that began when they were just three years old. As a child, Matt said I was in love with Laura, and I’m still there today. The moment The Way We Met shared their story, and they went viral. Everyone liked to read about their love story, and while the couple thought people would like the story, they didn’t know it would be fantastic as it was the response they would get.
The netizens were touched by their story
When it was posted by The Way We Met, Matt and Laura’s story received slightly more than 30,000 likes and 1,000 comments. Afterward, Laura received a message telling her that over 400,000 followers had shared the story with her. And, soon enough, several media outlets began reaching out to them to collect all the details they could about their beautiful story.
The couple’s future
What lies in store for the Grodskys? For almost two years now, the two friends have been living big in their hometown of Arizona, where Matt works as an account manager at a digital advertising firm, while Laura works for a non-profit organization that aims to foster children. They purchased a brand new house not too long ago and added personal touches to make it feel more like home. Also, they welcomed a new addition to their little family.
A New Member Of The Family
In the last two years, this was one of their most important milestones – being parents. Ok, in a sense. Because they wanted to add to their family a fuzzy companion after they got married, a sweet puppy called Kirby. Matt and Laura, coping with their new home, new puppy, and working full-time jobs, have their hands full. Of course, all of that does not mean that their plans do not include a real baby. Matt and Laura spoke about becoming parents one day during an interview with People.
There’s a time for everything
While they are much more occupied for now, Matt and Laura certainly have kids in store for the future. In an interview with People, Laura claimed: “We would love to have kids at some point. We are focusing right now on our new puppy Kirby and our new home.” These were hectic years of graduating, getting engaged, dating, buying a house, and adopting a puppy for the two of them.
Being grateful for each other
They are assured that they will never forget or take their story for granted. “The best thing about our relationship is that we are just stupid, and we appreciate each other every day,” they said in their interview with People. You very soon learn how much the other person means to you after having been through a long-distance relationship, and we appreciate our time.
What’s their favorite?
Although Matt and Laura are still just newlyweds, they have been with each other for years now, and they know many ways a relationship can be made to flourish. The most significant thing for them is being confident and getting the motivation for it. “Laura said, “His laughter is my favorite thing about Matt, he always makes me happy, and he’s the most motivated person I know,” while Matt added, “Her infectious smile and her determination to support others who are less fortunate is my favorite thing about Laura. She’s a force for good, and every day it’s inspiring to be around her.”
