Captain America

No doubt you know that Chris Evans plays the legendary role of Captain America. However did you know he turned the part down initially? TWICE. While on The Jimmy Kimmel Show in 2016, he revealed the reason why and it’s not what you think. “I was scared,” he admitted but it was that fear that convinced him to take the role on in the end.

Two Villains

Initially Joss Whedon wanted a second villain in Avengers Assemble. Only because he wasn’t convinced that Loki was a big enough villain on his own. He didn’t think Tom Hiddleston’s character could go up against so many characters. However he changed his mind when he realized that “it’s about how he gets in their heads – it’s going to be fine”. Good call!

Thor

In 2009, both Chris and Liam Hemsworth were trying out for multiple high-profile Hollywood projects. Including the role of Thor. While Chris would ultimately play the impressive axe-wielding hero, it almost didn’t end up that way. The role seemed to be in Liam’s favor. However Chris begged for another chance to read at his audition and the rest is history.

Dave Bautista was forced to spend three to five hours every single day in makeup for Guardians of the Galaxy. All of this was so he could transform into Drax. However by the time the sequel rolled around, the makeup team got it down to 90 minutes.

Black Widow

Emily Blunt was meant to play the part of Black Widow in the 2010 film Iron Man. However Twentieth Century Fox decided to take advantage of a contract Blunt had signed years before. Therefore Blunt instead starred in the Jack Black comedy Gulliver’s Travels. She could have starred in both actually however she wasn’t keen on flying from the US to the UK for half a year.

Imagine you’re scrolling your Instagram feed when you find out the biggest news of your life. Well that’s what happened to Tom Holland! Groot Script

If you’re not a fan of Groot then we can’t be friends. And that’s the bottom line. Okay, now that that’s out of the way. Vin Diesel is actually the man behind the world’s most loved Marvel character. And as it turns out, he had his very own “Groot script” in Guardians of the Galaxy II. This script had every single “I am Groot” line printed in English so he knew exactly what the character was saying. Only Vin Disel and the director saw the script.

A Friend From Work

When Thor utters the epic “He’s my friend from work!” line in Thor: Ragnarok, you know you’re in for a great film. It’s even considered one of the greatest lines from the movie! That line was actually suggested by a kid from the Make a Wish foundation. He was visiting the set that day.

Star Lord

In order to play the role of Star Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy, Chris Pratt got shredded. No seriously! He lost 60 pounds for the role – and it’s even humorously referenced in Parks and Recreation. I mean they needed to come up with a credible reason for Andy’s disappearance and intense weight loss. His character in Parks & Rec tells Ben (Adam Scott) that he lost some 50 pounds in a month just by giving up beer. That’s plausible.

The Munchies

When Tony Stark, AKA Robert Downing Jr., offers Captain America blueberries in The Avengers, it was all due to one of his improvised lines. See, Robert really likes to hid food all over the set because he gets hungry. That’s logical. At that point while filming, he picked up some blueberries and bam!

Woof Woof

At the beginning of Guardians of the Galaxy, there is a dog that appears in a hologram. Turns out that same dog is Dr. Von Spears and he belongs to the film’s director, James Gunn. What a Marvel – get it? Sorry, no pun intended!

I’m Seeing Double

In Captain America: The First Avenger, the crew needed to use a body double for Chris Evans when he’s skinny. Digital technology was then utilized so they could replace the body double’s face creating an allusion of a tiny, version of Evans.

Rocket Raccoon

Let’s be real, the very cute and very bitter space critter is your favorite character from the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. Right? That was a rhetorical question! The role of Rocket Raccoon was major, so much so that Marvel bosses were determined to have an A-list comedian provide the voice. While the role didn’t need much work and very little appearances on the promotional trial, it was still major. As it turns out, both Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler were ~this~ close to landing the role. However the part became Bradley Cooper’s after snagging his first Oscar nomination.

Smooches

During Thor: The Dark World, Natalie Portman and Chris Hemsworth (or rather their characters) share a seriously passionate kiss. You know the one. Well, that wasn’t actually Portman that Hemsworth was kissing! Portman was away filming another movie so Hemsworth’s wife, Elsa Pataky, stepped in as her double! “It was for reshoots and he was working in Hong Kong and I couldn’t get there because I was working on my own film,” Portman revealed. “And so they put his wife in my wig and costume, that’s why it was so passionate.”

Blue Makeup

After filming X-Men: First Class in London, Jennifer Lawrence got into a bit of pickle. She was forced to fight just to get the security deposit back for her Notting Hill apartment because of the makeup she wore as Mystique. Yeah, she stained the bathtub blue thanks to her Marvel character! Oops.
