Throughout the years, we have all been gripped by the world of reality TV. And when TLC’s Little People, Big World first hit our TV screens, it offered a a unique insight into the Roloff family. Soon, we were all hooked as we followed each family member on a daily basis. While the show has been running for many years, in recent times however, fans have noticed that their daughter Molly has disappeared from the program.
Little People, Big World
In 2006, when TV producers had almost run out of fresh, innovative concepts for new shows, TLC thought of an intriguing idea. And soon enough, by March 2006, the first episode of Little People, Big World was aired by the network. The show documented the lives of the Roloff family, who had something very unique to offer viewers.
The unique thing about this family is that the parents, Matt and Amy Roloff, both have dwarfism. The show also features their four children Zach, Jeremy, Jacob and Molly and gave viewers a deeper look into their daily lives. Still, as the show progressed, there was much more to their story.
The Family Farm
After the show started, Matt sadly lost his job. So, he made the life-changing decision to take the plunge with his wife Amy, and open up Roloff Farm. From that point on, the show shifted and cameras followed the Roloff’s as they started to run their family business. The farm estate stretches over 35 acres so there’s plenty to do. Still, no one, not even the family, could have predicted what would happen next.
An Expanding Family
The show Little People, Big World proved to be a major hit for the network, and in 2018 it even reached it’s 13th season. Over the years the show managed to capture the twists and turns of the family’s lives. And just as the program progressed, so have the lives of each cast member. The family has also expanded significantly, and both Jeremy and his twin brother Zach are both married now and each have children of their own.
During the course of the show there were some other unexpected twists and turns, which no one, not even the family could have predicted. One of the hardest challenges was in season 10, when Amy and Matt went through a divorce. Although this caused some tension and drama, there was something else happening around the same time, which viewers started to pick up on too. That was the gradual disappearance of Molly and Jacob from the program.
Phasing Out Of The Show
As Molly seemed to gradually phase out of the show, it began to catch the attention of many viewers. Her disappearance also sparked some speculation and confusion among fans. However, soon enough, one reason for her notable absence revealed. This was because she landed a new job at an accounting firm, Moss Adams LLP, which was based in Spokane, Washington.
The family’s farm was based in Hillsboro, Oregon, which meant it was a long distance from Washington. So understandably Molly couldn’t always be at home to appear in the show so often. Still, in spite of this distance, Molly didn’t sever any ties with her family members. When she got engaged to her fiancé, Joel Silvius, she even planned her wedding at the family’s farm. The beautiful ceremony was held in August 2017, and she celebrated the big day surrounded by all her of close family.
A Wedding At The Farm
After the big day, the mom, Amy posted this heart-warming photo of herself and the beautiful bride Molly at the farm on her Instagram page. Amy gushed how, “She not only radiates beauty within but outside as well!” She added, “Beautiful bride. Molly girl, I love you so much.”
Amy then posted another adorable selfie with Molly and her new husband, admiring how, “My little girl grew up and is now beginning a wonderful life [with] her husband, Joel.” She then continued. “I’m so so happy for you. I’m beyond words… so blessed to be your mom. Love forever and always. It was a beautiful day filled [with] love, hope, joy, faith.” Aw!
Feeling The Absence
Even though Amy was over the moon for Molly, she still felt her absence, especially at family gatherings. In March 2018, when Joel dropped in on the family for brunch, Amy posted this gorgeous photo of all the family reunited around the dinner table. She captioned the photo, “Sunday brunch! Joel was in town [with] a good friend to attend a wedding.” Amy was still quick to mention how, “We missed Molly not being there.”
Around the same time, there was another notable disappearance from the show, which also began to spark more speculation from fans. The other cast member was Jacob, the youngest member of the Roloff clan. However, he had a completely different reason for his gradual disappearance, which he explained on his Instagram account. According to Jacob, it was actually the producers of the show, who played a major role in his big decision to exit the program.
Missing From The Show
Jacob shared on his Instagram how he would always received comments “about how people ‘miss me on the show’ or telling me I should ‘do a few more episodes’ with the family.” However, just in case any fans harbored any hope of Jacob returning to the program, he shut the idea down and said “I’m posting this to say that that will never happen.” I know, we were shocked too!
Watching The Show From Afar
Jacob elaborated on a few of the reasons behind his decision. The main one was that after he took a step back, made some observations about how the show was being produced. He explained, “For the sake of ‘the episode’ and ratings, I’ve seen a lot of STORYLINES drawn up (loosely) about our lives, and when I was standing here, behind the scenes and watching it from an outside perspective, I just couldn’t stop laughing.” He added how he was, “Laughing at how hard the producers have to try to get us to follow the talking points and at how ridiculous the talking points are.”
Why He Made His Decision To Leave
It was as soon as Jacob started to make those observations, that he finally made his decision to leave the show. He continued in the post how,“For me, noticing how the agenda of the crew doesn’t work well with the health [and] happiness of our family is what made me decide quite a while ago.” He then insisted that as soon as he was able to leave, he “would not be a part of it.”
The Nature Of Reality TV
Jacob then took one more jab at the Little People, Big World. You see, as he had taken a step back, he realized he didn’t like the entire nature of reality of TV. He also felt that the show didn’t portray his family in the best light. He continued, “All in all I appreciate people wanting me to ‘be with the family’ for a few more episodes, but the family that is filmed is not my family,” Jacob added, “They are the Roloff Characters, and I have scarcely anything in common with them, nor do I want to be a character myself.”
Matt Opens Up
While Jacob had offered his diatribe against the producers of the show on Instagram, his dad Matt then added his own two cents on Facebook. After someone on Facebook posted a comment about his ex-wife Amy’s behavior on the show, it prompted Matt to respond. In fact, much like his son Jacob, he also opened up about what really went on behind the scenes of the set.
A Word To The Producers
Matt wrote on Facebook how, “We’ve been pushing the new producers to stop making our show negative and keep the family love and togetherness in the forefront.” He continued how, “For some reason, these new producers/editors that come into work don’t know the show and want to amplify the negative. I’m not sure we can take that kind of editing much longer.”
One Less Sibling
Although there has been some negativity surrounding the show, Little People, Big World is still going strong. In fact the hit show is about to enter it’s 14th season, which will air in 2019. Still, fans might be disappointed to learn that there will also be one less member of the cast. Another sibling, Jeremy who is looking to follow Molly and Jacob’s lead. It seems that now that he has a wife and young family of his own, he’s began to set his sights on moving away from the spotlight too.
An Amazing Run
In July 2018, Jeremy wrote on Instagram how, “A year ago, I made the decision that this season would be our last.” He still took the time to appreciate how “It has been an amazing run, and I can’t say thank you enough to all of you who have watched and supported us along the ride.” Still, there certainly have been a lot of dramatic exits and changes to the show. So we’re sure fans will definitely be intrigued at how the show fares when it returns to the network in 2019.
The show Little People, Big World has come a long way since the first episode. It was originally created back in 2006 and the concept was to capture the story of the Roloff family. While the parents, Matt and Amy were both little people, not all of their kids were. Out of the four children, only Zach inherited dwarfism. He had a twin brother, Jeremy who grew to a regular size, just like Jacob and Molly. Since the show began, fans have been hooked, and fascinated by watching the lives of this extraordinary family.
Show’s Positive Portrayal
After the debut of the show Little People, Big World, it was an instant hit, and gained an instant fan following. The show also received high ratings for the TLC network, so they decided to air it for the next season. And after this, the rest was history. Throughout the years, people have had conflicting views, opinions and criticisms over the show. While some praised the program for portraying little people positively, others criticized the voyeuristic nature of the show and they way it handles romantic relations. Still, overall the series has received a good reception and most fans appreciated the feel-good nature of the program.
Fans of the the show Little People, Big World will know that it is set on the Roloff family farm. However, fans may not realize that the labor intensive work has had some negative health effects of some of the members of the family. That’s because three members of the family have dwarfism, Amy, Matthew and Zach and they have all faced some health complications. The father Matthew has diastrophic dysplasia, which means he needs crutches and motorized vehicles to get around. Amy had minor issues and Zach had some surgeries as a child, but they doing ok now comparatively.
A Chance To Educate
When the network first pitched the idea of the show to the Roloff’s, the family couldn’t wait to tell their story and educate the world about dwarfism. Amy recalled the moment that “The Learning Channel came to us about five or six years ago”, to propose the idea. It was then she “suddenly realized we were given a great opportunity to educate people about dwarfism. Nothing [else] had depicted dwarfism in an everyday way.” Since the show Little People, Big World was first aired on the network, it received a great reception from fans and the family is continuously approached by fans saying much they love the show.
At the beginning of the show, one of the biggest reasons why it was such a hit with viewers, was because it featured every member of the family. This meant viewers got the opportunity to gain a deeper insight into each family member and helped them get more attached to each character. So if fans got used to tuning into each episode to see their favorite characters, it would have come as quite a shock when Jacob finally made the decision to finally quit the show.
New Author In The Family
Even though Jacob decided to leave the show, this wasn’t the end of his career, it was the beginning of a new direction for him. As the youngest sibling of the Roloff clan, Jacob is now a published author! His brand new book is called Verbing, and is available on Etsy. He later said that he was inspired by his experience on the family reality show to write the book. Jacob explained that the concept of Verbing “is my first foray into an official compilation of my writing.” The book is “split into three parts, subtitled: ‘Ignorance’, ‘Frustration’, and ‘Revelations’. He continued that, “The format is essentially three short essays on the subject of my growth spiritually, intellectually, and in the public eye. This is my exploratory experiment with writing to get my feet wet with the process and establish the subject(s) I would like to write on in the future.”
What Jacob Has Been Up To
After Jacob closed the chapter on the family reality show, he also started a new chapter in his life. That new chapter is with his girlfriend Isabel Rock, and they have been spending a great deal of time together since he left the show. They even started a shared YouTube channel and the adorable pair also took a three week road trip along the Pacific North together. They documented the journey on their shared channel.
No More Resentment
Jacob later gave some further insights to his fans about his thought on filming. He said “There’s [sic] two ways to do the filming thing — one way is through the show, maybe and the other way is through myself and vlogs.” So Jacob prefers to focus on his vlogs, because “It’s just more free doing it myself, I can do anything, I can say anything, I can talk about anything — I can show whatever I want.” He was careful to remind fans that, “I don’t want people to think that I’m living in a resentful sort of way towards the show — I’ve moved on from it. It’s just a natural progression of leaving the place you came from, moving on away from home, traveling away from home. Just getting away.”
The Happy Couple
During the course of the show, there were many other significant events, which made the show even more special. One of the siblings Zachary actually met his partner Tori on the show, while she was working on the farm. The pair soon became inseparable and are now married. When the couple celebrating their anniversary, Tori posted this adorable photo of her and her husband on Instagram. She captioned the post, “Zachary, you make me smile every day and I love our conversations about life and our dreams together. You are definitely my better half and I pray every day that I can be a better wife to you.” Shortly after this picture was shared, they welcomed a baby Jackson into the world. Aw!
This wasn’t the only family development on the show. Soon after Tori and Zach welcomed their baby Jackson into the world, he got a new cousin. In September 2017, Zach’s twin brother Jeremy and his wife Audrey welcomed their first daughter Ember into the family. The cousins are so close in age, so we’re sure they’ll be best friends for life. As the family continues to grow each year, fans can only speculate over which member of the Roloff clan will be the next one to have a baby.
Fans Cause Stir
Whilst the show has been filled with highs, lows, twists and turns and expanded quite a lot, they still take the time to come together for significant family events. The family all celebrated Jacob’s 21st birthday at Amy’s house and she shared this gorgeous picture of everyone together. She captioned the post, “This gathering happened the other day, all of my kids were at the Farm house to celebrate Jacobs 21st birthday early. What a fun and blessed time being all together! Of course this momma and grandma was happy and loved it!” And we loved seeing the gang back together too!
