A Strange Situation
As they opened the back, Mary and the officer were astonished to see that it was entirely devoid of contents, save for one spare tire. It was at that moment, as the officer scowled, that he understood just how odd the situation really was. If there were no suspicious items in the back, why wouldn’t the old man allow him to open it? What caused the change in his whole demeanor, and why was he refusing to talk to either of them?

„Ma’am, ist Ihr Mann in Ordnung? Would you mind checking on him for me? He gave the order as he took off the tire from the truck’s rear. When she returned to her husband, Mary’s stomach dropped at the sight of him in the same condition as before. Once more, she put a hand on his shoulder and gently rubbed it along his arm. “Walter, can you tell me what’s going on?” His reply was something she never wished to hear.
