“Assistance is coming, ma’am. He will be well taken care of, as they will know how to handle him. He was unable to believe that he had made such a poor misjudgment of the situation. It seemed like they waited for hours before the sound of sirens could finally be heard coming closer. Walter was in a dire condition, yet assistance was only seconds away. Walter’s sudden symptoms had appeared a good 20 minutes ago; was it too late for the old man now?

As Walter was secured onto a stretcher, one of the paramedics was talking to Mary and gathering all essential details regarding the incident. By this time, the ambulance had at last reached the scene. The officer stayed nearby, assuring Mary that he would take care of the situation with their car while she went with her husband to the hospital. No one was aware that her husband would not come home that night.
