Silence
Walter’s smile vanished as his gaze moved away from the man’s face. Without uttering a word, he started to fidget nervously with his hands on his lap. Mary instantly observed the change in her husband’s behavior. „Herr?“ after a few seconds of silence, the officer repeated. Walter ceased to respond entirely. Now, he was simply gazing at his hands resting on his lap. It was as though Mary and the officer were invisible.

An Easy Solution
Mary took it for granted that her husband was attempting to come up with a simple solution to their issue, yet after a full minute elapsed, he had not spoken at all. He was staring, but his eyes were hardly moving. „Walter, mein Schatz?“ She put a hand on his shoulder. “If you give the nice young man your keys, he can assist us.” However, Walter overlooked his wife and went on gazing at his hands.
