Kamdyn Piland came home from school all teary-eyed and upset. His parents wanted to know what was up, but the 2nd grader did not answer. They kept asking him questions about his day until he showed them a piece of paper that came with a note from his very own teacher. What did it say?

Unhelpful Piece Of Criticism

After reading it, Chris saw that his son’s teacher did not leave a helpful note for Kamdyn. No, she was personally attacking this young boy! There was no way he was just going to let such a thing go.

The dad said that his son was a normal child. Kamdyn was not hyperactive nor the sort to indulge in TV shows, video games, and sweet foods. It was a surprise to hear such harsh criticism from his teacher.

Something Serious

After reading the note left on the schoolwork, Chris wondered if there was something else going on at school. This was when he made up his mind to look into it more seriously. What did he find out?

A Regular School

Kamdyn is a 2nd-grade student at Valley View Elementary School. The school was just a regular public elementary school. Chris was aware that his son was not really what you would call an overachiever.

His parents, however, thought that all was going well in his school. They did not spot any problems before this. The complaints about Kamdyn went up ever since the beginning of this school year, however.

In many ways, Kamdyn was just a regular boy. Chris always thought his son was a good student. Sure, many kids hate doing homework. However, the problems only cropped up when he entered 2nd grade.

Chris could not just sit back and look on as Kamdyn began to have a harder time at school. This father knew that it was important for him to try and solve the problem. But what exactly was the issue here?

Kamdyn was neither unintelligent nor dim. However, Chris saw how much the young boy was struggling. His grades started to slip, but this dad knew that it was out of character for such a thing to happen.

Then came the day Kamdyn got home with the criticism from his teacher, Alyssa Rupp Bohenek. Chris knew she was the issue. After all, she wrote, “Absolutely pathetic! He answered 13 in 3 minutes! Sad!”

Alyssa Bohenek had been a teacher at that school for quite some time. She had earned a reputation as someone hard to please. Kamdyn was her student, and it was easy to see that not all was well.

What Kamdyn did would always catch her eye. She made sure to give him a cruel warning every time that he made an error. The feedback only managed to harm the self-esteem and confidence of the boy.

True, no parent wants to hear that their child is performing poorly in school. Regardless, it is often better to sort out the problem as soon as possible. Many people argue about how to deal with poor grades.

It can be challenging to become a mentor. At any rate, it is very important to serve as a good role model if you take on this vocation. A teacher should do more than just deliver lectures to their students.

We cannot fathom the idea of a teacher calling her student “pathetic.” This was not a good way to treat kids or anyone else for that matter. No doubt, she should be encouraging the little kids under her care.

It is the parents, teachers, and role models who shape kids into good adults. “Thanks to all the efforts and support of the dedicated people who signed and shared this petition, I’m happy to announce that the teacher in question is currently being investigated by the Valley View school board,” Chris said when the school agreed to look deeper into this matter.

Not The Only One

It turns out that this problem isn’t as uncommon as we’d like to think it is. Kamdyn isn’t the only child who’s had trouble with school due to an unpleasant teacher. Karen Eubank’s son had a similar tale. The 4th grader had a lot to say.

At first, the 9-year-old complained to his mother about his “mean” teacher. However, Karen took it with a grain of salt. Seeing as her son had just moved schools, it was very possible he simply was taking time to adjust to the change.

When Karen saw the school for the first time before transferring her son, she loved it. But, once he started attending, he began saying he didn’t want to go to school. Each day he would claim that he felt nauseated. When she would pick him up in the afternoons, he would be angry.

The entire time this was going on, Karen simply thought her son was having a hard time with the adjustment, and that he would eventually settle in. However, it wasn’t until Halloween of that year that she discovered the truth.
