The lion, Sheila, has yet to meet you. Sheila is a stunning lioness who spent most of her life as a show animal at private parties. Her health, however, began to deteriorate. Her caretaker couldn’t afford her regular veterinary care, but she was rescued thanks to animal rights activists. Sheila, unfortunately, appeared to be far too far gone at that point. Her new guardians were concerned that they would have to put her down. Until something miraculous happened…
Saving Sheila
Sheila was one of the lions rescued by the US Department of Agriculture in July 2009. Almost all of the lions were in poor health that year, but Sheila’s situation was terrible. She was as light as air, frail, and vulnerable. Even though her rescuers knew she had a slim chance, they took a chance and assisted her anyway. At the very least, they wanted to allow her to improve.
The Suffering Lion
Sheila was rescued from a Texas entertainment center. Her job was to make a lot of money for her boss by performing at high-profile events and parties. Sheila wasn’t the only lion in this entertainment center, but she was the most involved and suffering lion. Sheila’s keeper had been particularly cruel to his lions. “Once they’re no longer useful for this,” Keahey, Founder of In-Sync Organization, said, “he’ll throw them away and stop caring for them.”
