The X-Files

In 1997, Cher was the subject of an entire episode of The X Files, titled “The Post-Modern Prometheus”. The episode followed a man who was deformed and adored Cher because of her film role in Mask, where her character took care of her deformed son. Many of Cher’s songs appeared on the soundtrack, like “Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves” and “The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine Anymore”. At the very end of the episode, Mulder and Scully go a Cher concert, with the deformed fan when they hear her sing “Walkin’ in Memphis”. In real life Cher is a big fan The X-Files fan, and producers asked if she would play herself in this scene but she declined. Years later while on The X-Files Movie Special, she admitted that after the episode had aired, she truly regretted not appearing in it.
