In Hollywood, it only makes sense that there are plenty of celebrities who dye their hair. It can be for a certain role or simply due to personal taste and style. With time, however, it starts to become confusing: who’s hair is real? Who’s is dyed? No one can keep track. There are stars who stick to colors that aren’t their natural hues. Since we’re curious to find out what’s natural and what’s not, let’s take a look at some of Hollywood’s biggest stars. What color is their natural hair? You might not expect some of these – we sure didn’t!
Sofia Vergara – Blonde
Since she became everyone’s favorite person thanks to her character, Gloria, on Modern Family, Sofia Vergara’s been on everyone’s radar. Her stunning dark brown locks might be part of her staple look, but it turns out that isn’t her natural color! In fact, the Colombian actress is naturally a sandy blonde. She spoke about the way she had a hard time getting roles as a blonde. However, once she dyed her hair brown, she started getting roles easily. “I’m a natural blonde, like my siblings. When I started auditioning for American acting roles, they didn’t know where to put me. A blonde Latina? In L.A. they’re used to Latin women looking more Mexican. But if you go to Uruguay, Argentina, Colombia, everybody is blonde,” she said.
Kate Hudson – Brunette
It’s hard to picture Kate Hudson as anything other than a blonde, much like her mother, Goldie Hawn. Well, in 2017, when she debuted a buzzcut, she inadvertently revealed her true brown hair color. Of course, it was no secret, but all the same, fans were taken by surprise. With time, as her hair started growing back, fans were again taken off guard by her dark brown hair. Speaking of her drastic change, Kate said, “You can get caught up in the fact that, ‘Oh no, what happens if the identity that people see me as is, like, gone?’ I just don’t care. I just don’t think about stuff like that so, for me, I was just excited to get rid of all the old hair.”
Amy Adams – Blonde
Red hair can be tough to pull off, but Amy Adams is definitely someone who can. As a matter of fact, she does it so well that many people think that’s her natural color. That’s what makes her hair so amazing – she didn’t begin dying it until age 27. In 2004, she was cast on a show with another blonde. The producers insisted one of the actresses dye her hair. “She’s tan with these beautiful lioness green eyes and this mane of blonde hair,” Amy said. “And I looked at her and me, with my pale freckles, and thought, Gee, I wonder which one of us is going to go red!”
Jennifer Aniston – Brunette
It feels like Jennifer Aniston has always been a dirty blonde. However, it turns out that she was born with dark brown hair! No matter what color her hair is, we can all agree that she looks incredible. At the start of her career, Jennifer was auditioning for roles as a brunette with her natural color. Well, that all changed when she decided to dye her hair. Once she made her debut on Friends as Rachel, everything changed.
Mandy Moore – Blonde
When you think of Mandy Moore, you probably think of her as Rebecca Pearson from This Is Us. Since the series aired, it’s become somewhat difficult separating Mandy from her TV show character. In fact, it’s strange to remember that the star began her successful career back in the ’90s as a teen. While she’s been a brunette for over a decade now, her hair’s real color is actually blonde. As for her color, she’s said how the darker shade “feels the most like me”. She dyed her hair darker for her role in A Walk To Remember in 2002.
Laura Prepon – Red
These days, Laura Prepon sports an intense black hue when it comes to her hair. However, she’s naturally a redhead! The only reason her hair is so dark now is for her role as Alex Vause. All the same, she enjoys the dark color. Back when she starred in the hit series That 70s Show, she had her natural bright red hair color. In 2012, she made sure to emphasize that she was a natural redhead in an interview.
Sophie Turner – Blonde
When she came onto the Hollywood scene, Sophie Turner sported bright red locks that caught everyone’s attention. Her vibrant hair made a name for herself since she pulled it off so well. It turns out that isn’t her natural color – not even close. She’s a natural blonde! She had to dye her hair for the role of Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones. Either way, it’s safe to say she can pull off any hair color and make it look natural.
Reese Witherspoon – Brunette
Don’t take this too hard, but Reese Witherspoon, as in, Elle Woods herself, is not actually a natural blonde. She’s a brunette. Recently, the actress shared a throwback photo on her Instagram showcasing her younger self with her natural brown locks. While she did have a hit of natural blonde, she most definitely is not a blonde the way we thought she was! Still, we can’t imagine her with any other hair color but blonde.
Emma Stone – Blonde
You might be surprised to hear this, but Emma Stone is not a natural redhead! She’s actually blonde. It’s strange to think about it since she pulls off red hair so well, but it’s true. While she is one to change her hair often, she’s spoken about how red is her favorite color to have. “My hair grows out blonde, but my coloring is similar to that of a redhead,” she said. “So… I really like having red hair. I’m a natural blonde, but I really like the red.”
Zooey Deschanel – Blonde
We all know and love Zooey Deschanel for her quirky and cool demeanor, and of course, for her brown hair, heavy bangs, and big blue eyes. She might look fabulous with the dark locks, but that’s not actually her natural color. The actress is naturally a blonde. However, she never felt connected to the hair color. She’s spoken about how she prefers being a brunette, saying, “I had to dye my hair blonde for a screen test a few years ago, and it really wasn’t me. I’m a brunette at heart. When I had blonde hair I would wake up and be like, shocked. Your hair is part of your identity, and I’ve always felt like a brunette with bangs.”
