The HGTV Dream Home Giveaway
The truth is that HGTV gives away a fancy house to someone on a yearly basis. This is not the reason it made it to the list, however. Viewers do not ever hear about a consequence of the amazing prize: high taxes. You might get the house of your dreams, but you will have to pay the IRS 40 percent of its value. In the end, most of the winners of the HGTV Dream Home Giveaway have no choice but to give it up. You can think of it as a lovely vacation that turns super stressful all of a sudden.
Deadliest Catch
It is already bad enough that this show is fake, but the methods it uses to create drama are bringing the fishing industry real problems. The producers pay the TV fishing crew, which means that they no longer need to reach their fishing quotas. They end up pricing out the average fisherman, making it harder for others to earn a living. On top of that, the show likes to edit the clips to make dramatic storylines. It once combined footage from two different storms to make it seem like just a single big storm.
