You need to make sure you see this one, even if you’re not a big fan of classic films. Even though he had no experience working in a musical, the film director was inspired to turn the story into a movie. He brought on Jerome Robbins, a musical and dance director because he knew he needed help, to help with the behind-the-scenes work of prepping the characters for their roles. The 1961 film was so perfectly made that in Manhattan, viewers felt like they were taken back to 1957.

The English Patient is the kind of movie that can make you feel as if, even if you were not even born yet, you could relate to the horrors of World War II. It has received 12 Academy Awards nominations, won nine of them, and won two of its seven Golden Globe nominations.
