Meanwhile, BBC called her “Overseas Sports Personality of the Year”. For Associated Press, she was the “Female Athlete of the Year”. “She might have been young, but Nadia Comăneci” became a household name.

Nadia Comăneci even graced the cover of Time Magazine despite the fact that a Mars space mission was the talk of the town. Instead of giving the important mission its own issue, the magazine simply put it in a corner of the cover while she got majority of the page real estate.
