Their government soon became worried that their star gymnast would do the same thing and defect to the US. That was the reason they created a travel ban for her. They also monitored and checked her phone calls and letters. They only lifted the ban when she competed in Cuba and Europe.
Throwing In The Towel
In 1984, Nadia made the decision to quit competing. She did not leave the sport entirely, however. Instead, she chose to become the national gymnastics coach for Romania. Her new position would allow her to travel to different parts of the globe to attend competitions.
