The athlete made one of his finest defensive plays in the 1954 World Series when he took in a deep fly ball to centerfield while running the best as he could with his back to home plate to help the Giants become the winner after scoring 5-2. Mays had won the NL MVP award that season. Willie Mays guided the Giants to get the championship title of the Cleveland Indians.
