Lou Gehrig
On 4 July 1939, at the Yankee Stadium, The Iron Horse started 2,130 consecutive games, but this speech is possibly his most memorable moment on a baseball field. Only weeks after being diagnosed with the incurable neurological disease amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (or ALS), Gehrig gave a 277-word speech to the fans at Yankee Stadium, calling himself “the luckiest man on the face of this earth.”
