Harvard Health says bacteria in your gums can travel to blood vessels, inflaming your arteries and creating blood clots which increase your risk for a stroke. In 2012, the American Heart Association said that gum disease do not always harm your heart, but you will still want to brush your teeth twice per day and floss once.
