Historical Accuracy

Just 90 minutes after reading the script, Tom Hanks called up director Robert Zemeckis to tell him he would play the lead character. However, he had one main concern. The film had to be historically accurate. Zemeckis was determined to make the screenplay as factually and historically accurate. Hanks then said he wasn’t sure how Southern to make the voice, but the director insisted that he keep it as strong as the novel.
