Pete Rose
In a game between the Reds and the Cubs at Wrigley Field in August 1975, Pete Rose made a play that not everyone could do. Cincinnati Red player Pete Rose dove into third base. During the series with Chicago Cubs, Rose, the baseball’s all-time hits leader in that series, went 4-for-9 with eight walks.
Roger Bannister
On August 7, 1954, at the British Empire and Commonwealth Games, Roger Bannister was the first man to beat the four minutes in the mile. Roger competes in the “Miracle Mile” against his opponent John Landy, the only other individual to have broken four minutes at the time. Bannister won the duel and was named Sports Illustrated’s “Sportsman of the Year” for the first time.
