The Only Chance
Nadia trusted Panait since he managed to obtain US citizenship. He told her that he could assist her in doing the same thing. According to him, they could leave Romania by going through Austria and Hungary. Although it was dangerous, Nadia desperately wanted to leave Romania. In 1989, they made it to the States after first going to Canada. The “Romanian Revolution” happened only weeks later.
